February 12/19

Hello on a snowy, blustery day. Our 2019 Race Calendar is up,  4 races same as last year, including the revised reboot of the Fall Classic.  And for Pete’s sake, get the  hell of the road when you are running.    This is my usual winter rant, runners have no business running down busy streets due to snow on the sidewalks. Find another place to run. Cars can’t stop or see you, not to mention they resent your presence on the road. For the rest of you stay warm, especially feet and hands, bright clothing and run safe!

December 8/18

February 11/17

Hi All,
Hope you are all getting through winter in one piece. Training in the winter season is a struggle. I recommend mixing up your outdoor running with pool workouts or indoor bike trainers. We have an excellent facilities at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre including an indoor track. I believe in staying active year round, even a walk outside will refresh those February Blahs. In no time the spring thaw will be upon us.
Speaking of spring thaws, our 38th annual Spring Thaw takes place May 14th, entry form HERE. One thing you may notice is that t-shirts are an optional purchase for this race, and probably for all races going forward. Our goal at the Belleville Runners’ Club is to promote running, and we are fortunate to have low cost for our races, thus lower entry fees. We are also encouraging pre-registration as it makes our lives so much easier on race day.
We will be having the 12th annual Canada Day Dash 5m race and 1km kids run July 1st at Zwick’s Park.  We have not finalized the fee structure but we are keen to celebrate Canada’s 150th with a fine footrace. Entry form for Canada Day Dash will be available shortly.
Mark Kellar is encouraging runners to meet the Dog Park at Zwick’s East for casual running on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30. No cost and all welcome.
The annual Kid’s Cancer Fundraiser 5km run and 1 km walk takes place March 19th 2017, Herchimer Ave Pier. Entry form HERE

With heavy hearts we are sad to announce the passing of Jan Stam. Jan was active in the Belleville Runners’ Club for years, though his bad knees denied him the ability to run. Jan was my friend, mentor and co-conspirator. I will never forget Jan’s wit and humour, Jan is survived by Carol, his dear wife of 62 years. Both Jan and Carol were especially kind to me and the girls when Shirley was away at school. May the wind always be at your back, my friend.
